A Brief Background...
The 151 Club was established in July 2008 with the aim of fundraising in aid of two children's charities. CLIC Sargent was chosen because the treasurer's granddaughter received tremendous support from the charity when she was diagnosed with Leukaemia in 2005 and during her two and a half years of chemotherapy. The granddaughter of another committee member suffers with Cerebral Palsy and receives therapy at the BOBATH Centre in Cardiff.
A comittee was set up to ensure that funds will continue to be available so that other families can benefit from the support offered by these two worthwhile charities. The rest of the group members, all volunteers, give 100% commitment to all events organised. Since the launch event on 6th September 2008, the group are continually arranging fundraising events and sending regular cheques to the two charities.
In addition to fundraising, the group are anxious to make the community aware of the existence of these two charities since our research has shown that not many families are aware that these services are available in the South Wales Area. We work closely with representatives of both CLIC Sargent and BOBATH, and have visited their headquarters to see, at first hand, the support which is given to both patients and family members. More information, on both charities, can be seen on their individual websites.
After taking a break during the month of August, the group will begin their third year of fundraising on Tuesday 6th September, when they will be planning their programme of events for the next twelve months. Anyone wishing to join the group are welcome to come along to the meetings which are held on Tuesday at 1.30pm in The Methodist Church Hall in Pontllanfraith.
If you would like to support the work of The 151 Club, and with it the work of BOBATH and CLIC Sargent come along to some of the events or donate online using the link on the left.
